Mike Simpson

Mike, Chief Executive Officer of the Paget Gorman Society, develops the infrastructure and systems to deliver the Paget Gorman Signing System to its users. He acts as the interface between the users and the Paget Gorman Society. He oversees the work of the Management Committee and keeps the Trustees involved with all developments.

Mike is a retired teacher who has worked with pupils from 6 to 16. He has been a tutor for the Surrey Schools Council and a member of the County Advisory Committee for In-service Education in Hampshire. He has worked with the special needs department at the Farnborough College of Technology and has delivered in-service courses to teachers in Hampshire. His specialist subjects have been English, Mathematics and Information Technology.

Mike is a qualified teacher also holding a Diploma in Management Studies (D.M.S.) and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration. (M.Ed.)


Mary Simpson

Mary, a member of the Paget Gorman Society Management Committee is a retired teacher.

Mary, a class teacher, has taught children with speech and language disabilities at Meath School, an ICAN Primary School, for 18 years. She holds a PGS Diploma and continues to run signing classes for parents.

Mary moved from state Primary teaching to Meath. Mary joined NAPLIC and attended many of their courses and conferences. She was a committee member of the local Special Interest Group providing  speakers for meetings of Teachers and Therapists on the subject of children with developmental speech, language and communication needs.

Mary is a qualified teacher holding a Certificate in Education with distinction.


Chris Donlan

Chris Donlan, a trustee of the Paget Gorman Society, is Deputy Head of the Division of Psychology and Language Sciences and Director of Studies in Speech and Language Therapy at University College London.

Chris worked as a Teacher with children with communication difficulties for 12 years before starting an academic career. He studied part-time for an MSc in Human Communication, writing a research project on structural aspects of manual signs, then took a PhD in Psychology at the University of Manchester, studying mathematical development in children with Specific Language Development. He worked with Mary Jennings (Moor House School) on a single case study of PGSS as an aid to word learning, now being prepared for publication, and continues to research the role of language in mathematical development.


Jude Rimell

 Jude, a member of the Paget Gorman Society Management Committee is a Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Meadowbank School, Cardiff. She is a fellow of the Paget Gorman Society. 

Sue Lock

Sue Lock is a member of the Management Committee of the Paget Gorman Society.

Sue originally trained as a teacher for children with severe learning difficulties and became interested in specific language difficulties when she taught at the Nuffield Speech and Language Unit. Currently she is a specialist advisory teacher for children and young people with language and communication needs working in Hillingdon. She has also taught, for over twenty years, in other language units, special schools and mainstream settings. Sue has a diploma in Paget Gorman Signed Speech.
